Joi McAtee is fueled by a drive to tackle tough problems and uplift communities. Her mission to build a better, fairer world shines through her leadership in education, nonprofit innovation and public service. A proud graduate of Central High School, Joi earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Kentucky, a master’s in higher education administration from the University of Louisville, and she recently returned to UofL to pursue a master’s in public administration and a PhD in urban studies and public affairs.
Joi serves as project manager for the Ali Compassion Index at the Muhammad Ali Center. Previously, she served as executive director of equity for Louisville Metro Government and has worked with KentuckianaWorks, Spalding University and JCPS.
Joi serves on the boards of Maryhurst Inc., Big Brothers Big Sisters – Kentuckiana and HHN2L (Hip-hop into Learning), and she’s a trustee for Initiatives of Change in the United Kingdom. Other volunteer efforts include Meals on Wheels, voter registration drives and neighborhood cleanups. Joi previously served on the Louisville Metro Commission for Persons with Disabilities, the Juneteenth Jubilee Commission and the Kentucky Derby Festival Block Party Committee.  Joi’s favorite person in the world is her daughter, Elizabeth.
