Dr. Meena Atif, an award-winning dentist, plays the Sitar of Louisville, and joins us at the Festival of Faiths to perform timeless and precious Raagas on sitar. She also serves as a multilingual translator for many organizations and helps newly arrived immigrants with education, cultural orientation, navigation and assimilation in the USA. Meena learned music from her father, Dr. Sediq Atif. Over the years she enriched and developed her own signature style of playing sitar and guitars and has incredible finger dexterity evident in her sonic embellishments. Lovingly called “The Sitar of Louisville”, she is often celebrated on local news for her multidimensional and diverse contributions to the community and has been affectionately recognized as Louisville’s cultural figure, “Kentucky’s Sitar Extraordinaire”, “Louisville’s Sitar Maestro” and the “Guitar Beast of America”. Her music has an energizing, uplifting as well as peaceful and calming effect in her live concerts. At home, she enjoys creating sitar and guitar covers of popular songs on her social media platforms.
